A public online university distinguishes itself in the competitive distance learning market.
The Challenge:
The continuing growth of online education and distance learning has created a significant opportunity for organizations that are creative, thoughtful and proactive. Charter Oak State College recognized these opportunities, but also recognized the competitive nature of this distinctive form of higher education. Its goals were to understand current and predicted employment and industry trends in order to identify the programming and directions it should plan for its future student base. As well, it needed to understand the competitor landscape, and what prospective students were seeking in courses and programs to fulfill their goals.
The Process:
Melior conducted secondary research and interviewed workforce development professionals to identify workforce trends impacting adult learners and to recommend new programs that are responsive to the “new economy.” Melior also conducted a competitive positioning evaluation and a survey of prospective students to understand what they seek and value.
The Outcome:
Charter Oak is now using Melior’s recommendations to develop programs that focus on several of the important “future” careers.
